My next little trick is going to be to dress her in the Wedding outfit I recently acquired. As for non follower wife, you need to play skyrim PC version with mod. This will not only make her wear the clothe you want her to wear, but it also prevent her initial gear from reappearing once you leave the cell (changing location). Did that, went to see the Jarl, got my title, left Morthal and walked up the road, only to see my wife wandering along the road with her Ebony Long-Sword on her back and not wearing anything!! Then give her the clothe you want her to wear. I wandered off in a different direction to finish one more task in Morthal so I could become Thane. What made me chuckle the other day was I dismissed her in a City somewhere and she said she was heading home. Thing is, every time I get home to Breezehome and Lydia's there, she's in her undies.
(I thought being my wife meant I could get her naked for free, but not so!) I've married Lydia and I didn't even have to pick-pocket her clothes.I bought them from her.
It is a bit daft that you can rob someone of their clothes, (without them apparently noticing!), but they won't then dress themselves if you give them something else.
